Lebanon Valley 5, Juniata 2

3/31/04Huntingdon, Pa.? After claiming back-to-back conference victories the Juniata College men?s tennis team had its winning streak snapped as Juniata fell 5-2 to Lebanon Valley in Annville Wednesday. Juniata fell to 2-1 overall and in the conference, while Lebanon Valley improved to 8-0 on the year and 4-0 in the conference.

The Eagles took the top two singles matches as Neil Eicher (Altoona/Altoona) and Satoshi Kimura (L.B. Pearson College (CA)/Nasano, Japan) each captured singles wins. Eicher rallied after dropping the first set 3-6, and bounced back with 6-4, 6-3 wins in the final two sets. Kimura claimed the first set 6-0, then fell 2-6 in the second set before claiming the win in the final set 6-2. Scott Noerr (Lewistown/Lewistown), Brandon Long (Lebanon/Lebanon) and Jack Walfish (Spring-Ford/Royersford) each dropped their matches by game scores of 6-4, 6-2.

On the doubles courts Long and Noerr dropped the tightest doubles match of the contest as they fell 8-6 in the number three doubles contest. Eicher and Kimura fell 8-4 in the first doubles match, while Tom Nelson (State College/State College) and Osman Homurlu (Tarsus American School/Adana, Turkey) fell 8-2 at the second doubles match.

Juniata will return to action on Friday when Elizabethtown comes to Huntingdon to complete a match that was stopped early due to rain.
