Grantham, Pa.? On the first day of competition at the MAC Track and Field Championships, the Juniata College women?s team is off to a strong start in both the heptathlon and the team competition.

Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) earned Juniata?s first points of the meet as she finished third in the 10,000 meters, earning six points for the Eagles. Hayes ran home in a time of 40:29.43 which broke the previous school record which she set earlier this season.

Also in action on day one were Kira Troutman (Line Mountain/Valley View) and Misty Heuston (Central/Martinsburg) who competed four of the seven events in the heptathlon. Through the first four events, Troutman has scored 1,906 points, while Heuston has put 1,762 points on the board.

Troutman?s top finish came in the shot put as she scored 489 points with a throw of 9.38m. Her top point performance came in the 100-meter hurdles when she placed third in a time of 17.78. Troutman cleared 1.36m in the high jump to finish third in that event. She rounded out her day with a ninth-place finish in the 200-meters which earned her 436 points.

Heuston placed sixth in the 200 and earned 508 points. Heuston placed fourth in the hurdles to earn 488 points. Her jump of 1.30m earned her 409 points and placed her sixth in the high jump. She rounded out her scoring by placing sixth in the shot put and capturing 357 points.

The heptathlon will be completed on Friday with the javelin, long jump and 800-meter run.

Action will also start in many of the field events as well as prelims of the track events.
