Grantham, Pa.? The Juniata College men?s and women?s track and field teams completed competition at the MAC Championships in Grantham on Saturday afternoon. The Eagle women?s team finished the competition in fifth place with 98 points, while the men?s team placed ninth with 20 points. The 98 points scored by the women are the most points they have earned in the eight-year tenure of head coach Jon Cutright.

The Eagle women also broke three more school records, giving them five records for the meet.

Twenty-three of Juniata?s points came in the 400 meters as the Eagles recoded first, second and fourth-place finishes in the event. Meredith Troutman (Meyersdale/Meyersdale) placed first, breaking the school record in a time of 57.99. The previous record holder Stefanie Rynkewitz (Lewistown/Lewistown) finished second in the event, and freshman Elena Amato (Notre Dame Prep./Baltimore, Md.) ran home in fourth place.

Troutman added a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, earning another five points for Juniata. Amato bested her fourth-place finish by placing third in the 800 meters. Amato placed third in the event and set a school record with a time of 2:18.26, breaking the previous record by more than a second.

Also earning a first-place finish on the day was Kira Troutman (Line Mountain/Valley View) who tossed the javelin 133? 7? to claim the win. Jan Jennings (Pleasant Valley/Saylorsburg) added an eight-place toss in the event.

Juniata also captured first place and topped the previous school record in the 4x400-meter relay. Julianna Hillegass (Shanksville-Stonycreek/Berlin) joined Amato, Rynkewitz and Meredith Troutman as they topped the previous school record of 4:03.12.

Also earning points for Juniata on the track were Katey Glunt (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) and Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) placed third and eighth respectively in the 5,000. Completing Juniata?s scoring were Andrea Denkovich (Greencastle-Antrim/Greencastle) and Betsey Kusniez (Boyertown/Gilbertsville) who finished seventh and eighth in the hammer throw.

For the Eagle men Jeremy Weber (Garden Spot/Mohnton) capped a solid weekend by jumping 43? 8? in the triple jump which was good for a fifth-place finish. Randy Anderson (Dubois/Dubois) added a seventh-place jump in the triple.

Dusty Sier (Smithsburg (Md.)/Smithsburg) added a sixth-place finish for Juniata in the finals of the 100-meter dash. Juniata then added three points with another sixth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Sier, Anderson, Will Cantara (West Branch/Winburne) and Gary Ondecko (Bishop Carroll/Northern Cambria) came home in a time of 3:27.25.
