Criminal Justice students will study the complexities and theoretical underpinnings of the U.S. criminal justice system in order to understand and analyze it in practice. Grounded in the liberal arts, the focus will be on contextualizing critical analysis of the system, based on core U.S. values of justice and equality.

Students will hone their analytic and problem-solving skills so they can explore justice in its many dimensions, preparing them for careers in the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors as well as post-graduate study.

    Examines contemporary psychological and sociological theories of behavior deviation, including crime, delinquency, substance abuse and selected other categories. Typologies for classifying and studying crime are developed and evaluated. Trends in behavior deviation, including the characteristics of offenders and victims, are critically explored. Informal and formal, as well as proactive and reactive, social control systems aimed at managing behavior deviation are described and analyzed..
