Biography
Dr. Kyle J. Jaquess graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a doctorate in Kinesiology, specializing in cognitive-motor neuroscience. This was accomplished after earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with a minor in philosophy, from the University of California, Riverside, and a master’s degree in experimental psychology from California State University, San Bernardino. “Dr. J” joined Juniata College in the Fall of 2020 after a 1.5 year post-doctoral experience at the War-Related Illness and Injury Study Center at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, DC.
Dr. J joined Juniata to teach cognitive neuroscience, which he does regularly, but he also teaches other courses related to his background in the psychophysiology of human performance (Sport Psychology, Motor Learning & Control, and Expertise & Performance). In doing so, he contributes to three designated programs of study at Juniata: Psychology, Neuroscience, and Exercise Science & Kinesiology, while enjoying working relationships with various athletic programs on campus.
Dr. J leads the Cognitive Affective Motor (CAM) Lab on campus which is focused on investigating the psycho-physiological processes related to stress resilience and the learning of skills. Members of the CAM lab acquire hands-on knowledge in study design, data collection, processing, and analysis, while also earning the opportunity to present work at local, regional, and (inter)national conferences, among other forms of experiential learning.
In his leisure time, Dr. J loves motorcycling, being out of doors, reading, writing, spending time with his wife and children, and pushing the boundaries of his body, mind, and spirit.
