Biography

Dr. Katie E. Hoffman joined the Education Department at Juniata College in 2021. She currently teaches undergraduate special education courses including Differentiated Instruction, Adaptations for Students with Exceptionalities, Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Disorders, Assessment, and Adolescent Development. She also serves as the Director of Graduate Studies in Special Education. Most recently, she was the primary architect of Juniata College’s M. Ed. in Special Education that launched in 2022; she now teaches the Special Education Law course at the graduate level. 

Dr. Hoffman earned her undergraduate degree in Special and Elementary Education from Juniata College in 2001. She then went on to be a special education teacher and worked with students with a variety of special educational needs in northern New Jersey. Hoffman spent several years in the classroom and opted to pursue graduate school. She attended Penn State University and obtained a PhD in Special Education. Hoffman graduated in 2008 and then spent 13 years as a teaching faculty member at Penn State. Dr. Hoffman's research interests include teacher preparation, distance education, and progress monitoring through the use of curriculum-based measures.
