Juniata Welcomes International Students

Location

  • Juniata is located in the quiet, friendly town of Huntingdon, which is situated in the beautiful Allegheny mountains of central Pennsylvania.
  • The larger cities of Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C. and Baltimore are within a two to three hour drive of campus.
  • The nearest commercial airport is in State College, a major university center 50 km away from Huntingdon. The Amtrak train passes through Huntingdon on its way to Philadelphia to the East and Pittsburgh to the West.

Academics

Students at Juniata experience the kind of one-on-one and personal academic advising and support that is not available at many large universities. Every student has two academic advisors who counsel the student on academic and other related issues and offer their advice in course selection and career decisions.

The student to faculty ratio in most of Juniata's classes is 13 to 1, allowing for greater discussion and a more interactive learning environment. There are usually about fourteen students per class.

Juniata's English for Academic Purposes (IEP) courses average 6 students per class. The ESL instructors and staff are friendly and familiar with the campus and local area. They take the time to answer your questions and guide you in your learning and experience of a U.S. college campus.

Activities Outside of the Classroom

The small size of the Juniata campus allows for a close-knit community and greater interaction among students. The staff of the Center for International Education invites you to become involved in the many activities and programs that are available at Juniata. Juniata has over seventy clubs and organizations.

Friendship Family Program

A student is matched with a family in the community. You don't stay with the family; just visit with them from time to time. The get-togethers are usually relaxed and casual - a meal, shopping, watching a ball game. You and your family will decide how often you want to meet.

First Friends Program

The program matches you up with other students studying here on campus. The goals of this program are to get to know other students, to meet new people and to make some cool friends to share cultural experiences, stories and languages.

Language in Motion

Language in Motion sends students from Juniata to present language and cultural activities in the classrooms of local, rural public schools. Language in Motion offers Juniata students who have knowledge of other languages and cultures opportunities to gain valuable experience that will help in the classroom, in the workplace and in life.
