Juniata College Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students Fund Reporting –American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP)

On March 11, 2021 the President of the United States signed the American Rescue Plan (ARP). This plan provided Juniata College with $1,418,714 in funding that we may provide to specific student populations who are defined as having exceptional financial need.

CERTIFICATION
Juniata College signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement on April 20, 2020. Juniata College will use no less than 50% of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

AWARD—Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III---American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP)
Juniata College received a total of $2,837,430 under Section 18004(a)(1) of the HEERF III. At least $1,418,714 will be distributed directly to students impacted by campus disruptions due to the Coronavirus. These funds being from the Department of Education and pursuant to our Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

As of 9/30/21, Juniata College has distributed funding in Emergency Financial Aid Grants under Section 18004(a)(1) to our students in the following amounts:

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY
Juniata College has an estimate of 1115 students eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act/CRRSAA/ARP. As of 7/15/21/, Juniata College distributed Emergency Financial Aid Grants to 1115 students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

METHOD USED TO DETERMINE STUDENTS ELIGIBILITY
Tiers representing students Expected Family Contribution (EFC) are used to determine how much funds students are to receive. Below are the tiers with the amounts. Tier 1-6 were awarded in a batch process and students did not have to apply with an application.

i. Tier 1 EFC= $0- 5576 Award $2300 (all Pell recipients)
ii. Tier 2 EFC= $5577-11500 Award $1800
iii. Tier 3 EFC= $11501- 19000 Award $1400
iv. Tier 4 EFC= $19001-29000 Award $900
v. Tier 5 EFC=$29,001-66376 Award $600
vi. Tier 6 EFC=$66,377 and up Award $300
vii. No FAFSA on file Award $224

Students who did not complete a FAFSA in 2020-21, but COULD have completed it,  were given funding, per guidance of the Dept of Education.

Only students who were enrolled during the Spring 2021 semester received ARP funds, per guidance from the US Department of Education.  

INSTRUCTIONS/DIRECTIONS GIVEN TO STUDENTS
An email was sent to students on 7/14/21 that included instructions, directions and guidance was emailed to students regarding the Emergency Financial Aid Grants.
