PA Department of Revenue - Bureau of Audits

Here is a description of the positions that we are recruiting for:

 1) Commonwealth Public Service Intern – This is a six month paid internship that can be split into multiple summers, semesters, or breaks in classes.  Commonwealth Public Service Interns will follow a training plan intended to learn how the Bureau conducts audits and will assist auditors in the completion of compliance audits.  Successful completion of the program will result in a full-time position as a Revenue Tax Audit Trainee.  To qualify, you must currently be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student in an accredited college/university in a declared bachelor's degree program. At the time of application you must have successfully completed 30 college credits with the anticipation of completing at Least 60 college credits at the time of hire. PA residency requirements for employment also apply. Please note: an accounting major, or a closely related field, is a prerequisite to be eligible for this intern program within the Bureau of Audits.

 2) Revenue Accounting Intern – This is a 13 week paid internship, typically available over the summer.  Revenue Accounting Interns will assist auditors in the completion of tax compliance audits.  To qualify, you must be enrolled full-time in a post-secondary education program for the next semester, be in good academic standing, and be at least eighteen years of age. Please note: an accounting major is a prerequisite to be eligible for this intern program within the Bureau of Audits.

 3) Revenue Tax Audit Trainee – This is an introductory, full-time position with the Bureau of Audits.  Trainees will complete a one-year training program that includes formal and informal classroom and on-the-job training intended to prepare trainees to complete compliance audits in the taxes administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.  These taxes include sales and use, corporate net income, personal income, gaming, gross receipts, and many others.  Auditors must have a good working knowledge of auditing techniques, state and some federal taxes, accounting principles, and accounting information systems.  Audits are typically done at the taxpayer’s place of business and auditors spend about 75% of their time traveling throughout the Commonwealth and some out-of-state travel is required.  To qualify, candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field that includes or is supplemented by 24 credits in accounting and be a PA resident.  Students enrolled full-time in a Pennsylvania institution of higher-learning are considered PA residents for the purpose of applying for the position.
