Theatre Performance - starting fall 2015

Department: Communication & Theatre Arts

Students who study Theatre Performance begin with a solid base of Acting (Meisner, Practical Aesthetics, Stella Adler, among other techniques), Theatre History, Fitzmaurice Voicework, and Viewpoints/Suzuki Movement technique. As they progress, they are immersed in different areas of work, including studio classes in Shakespearean and modern texts, contemporary and avant-garde texts, original pieces that they create, musical theatre, circus techniques, and a vast array of movement techniques designed to create whole and versatile performers.

Upper level students are mentored by faculty and guest teaching artists from the Juniata Visiting Artist Collective in many different modalities of performance. Students of any POE may receive credit for acting in, or working behind the scenes in a production on the main stage (Theatre Arts Practicum). Students may also receive credit for a shorter, yet more immersive experience (such as comedy improvisation, acting, or camera work) in a Professional Training Intensive. It is our intention that Theatre students should graduate with a strong sense of this work and feel personally enriched with a strong supportive network of teachers and peers on whom to rely.
