The Telecommunications Analyst is responsible for testing and maintaining campus communication hardware and software solutions and serving as a liaison to Facilities Services for building renovations and projects. This position is the point person for coordinating and performing campus telecommunications moves, adds, and changes and providing technical expertise to assist in efficient and effective telephony and network communications. The Telecommunications Analyst also works with telephone, cable TV and network service providers to troubleshoot issues.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Configure and maintain phone switch setup, backup, and current routing tables.
- Assist students, faculty, and staff, through the help desk, by coordinating and performing campus telecommunications moves, adds, and changes.
- Support, maintain, and expand the campus network and telephony infrastructure in the areas of wiring, termination, and network and phone hardware.
- Perform cable locating for campus phone, cable TV and network infrastructure.
- Act as the department liaison on construction projects with service providers, as well as other campus departments.
- Perform repair services in emergency situations as needed.
- Assist in the development of long-term strategic goals and operating plans to guide network operations and development.
- Test and evaluate solutions related to voice, fiber, copper, cable TV, and all other foundation support systems.
- Assist with disaster recovery planning and deployment for communication resources.
- Create technical documentation for telecommunication features and functionality and provide user training.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
This position is supervised by the Director of Campus Network and Security under general guidelines and direction and must be able to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others.
- Knowledge and abilities normally acquired through a Bachelor’s Degree in information technology, or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least two years of data and voice network experience sufficient to demonstrate competency and capability with: data and voice LAN technology, cabling infrastructure, and standards to include copper, coax, fiber, and wireless technologies.
- Specific knowledge of Ethernet networks and TCP/IP protocols.
- Experience working with voice related server applications, Windows Servers, and/or UNIX operating systems strongly desired.
- Demonstrated knowledge with communication security, backup operations, and disaster recovery concepts.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to both a technical and non-technical audience.
- Must be able to respond to system outages during off-hours.
- After hours and on call support is required for emergencies and planned maintenance intervals.
- The position requires a variety of physical activities including using ladders, accessing and installing wiring above ceiling/below flooring and in crawl spaces, moving equipment from building to building, and troubleshooting issues that extend outside of building walls.
- The position may require lifting/pushing/carrying objects up to 40 pounds.
- Must have a strong sense of responsibility and integrity due to the level of system access required for this position.
