Huntingdon, Pa. – Juniata College’s annual Mr. Juniata “Star of the Universe” event will raise money for suicide prevention and mental health awareness.

Organized by the Juniata College Kickline dance team, the annual spoof on beauty pageants will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, in the Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets will be sold for $5 in Ellis Hall prior to the event and will cost $7 at the door.

Jackie Scott, one of the co-captains of the kickline team, said it will be “an intergalactic adventure with new hosts, out of this world talents, and inter-stellar judges.”

Contestants representing each class year include first years, Ryan Hughes of South Harrison Township, N.J., and Damien Teal of Chambersburg; sophomores, Thomas Cope of Fogelsville and Genki Miyasato of  Kunitachi, Japan; juniors, Kaden Zellers of Selinsgrove; and Theodore Weinberger of San Lorenzo, California; and seniors, Pablo Murillo of Fairfield, N.J., and Evan MacMullin of Haverhill, Mass.

The competition is in three parts: a talent portion, question and answer, as well as an escort portion in which contestants present a guest of their choice with a gift.

Community members, students, and faculty are all encouraged to buy tickets. All proceeds will be donated to a yet-to-be-selected organization focused on mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
